In conjunction with the traditional methods of instruction and with the intention of presenting the course of study in different
Learning Styles, Project Oriented Assignments require Hands-on, active participation during class.
Alternative
Assessments are utilized for students who consistently fail to achieve in the traditional educational environment
where the Rubric for success is the standard Written Testing.
By utilizing folders which contain a Portfolio
of Accomplishment in regard to the Project Assignments each student has a ready Show and Tell record of his/her
classroom participation.
The Rubric utilized is a comparison between the students' Portfolios,
which allows the teacher to evaluate the students performance and efforts over a whole report period, and by
comparison, inform each student of their individual standing in the classroom.
The students and their parents
are aware of this relationship between the course requirement and the evaluation which will be made before grades are
entered.
The Projects inside these Portfolios are used to evaluate and grade the
students, based upon the appearance and level of completion of assigned work.
This informs each student of requirements
for a Report Period. This defines the objective nature of the evaluations, by comparison to the assignments and
the accomplishments as evidenced physically inside each Portfolio, and those of the other students.
Each
Project is utilized as an Alternative Assessment Device by having the students Show and Tell their completed
Project Assignment, explaining the relationship of the project to the cognitive material in the course of study.
