The first two church ages...

Rev. 2:2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

Rev. 2:3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Rev. 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love, (i.e.; that I am the ideal of Truth, itself,... not Love).

Rev. 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, (and, have changed my evangelium of the kingdom to your own, a mere WITNESS of my historical presence), and repent, and do the first works (and go back to my original evangelium, and expose the once secret doctrine of Israel, that Reality is The Almighty, and I am Truth, its image); or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Rev. 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the (anthropomorphic ritualistic) deeds, (the pagan Animism), of the (myth worshipping) Nicolaitans, (that is, their Mysteries and temple Cults interpretations), which thing I hate.

Rev. 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit (of Truth) saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, (...the biological process of evolution), which is in the midst of the paradise of God, (this amazing Reality).

Rev. 2:8 And unto the angel, (the Libidinal mindset of that carnal generation) of the church in Smyrna (in the Time of the Terror of Nero) write; These things saith the first, (the Word of the Old Testament), and the last, (the New Testament), which was dead (and without salvation), and is alive (now, in the spirit of Truth);

Rev. 2:9 I know thy works, and tribulation, and (materialistic) poverty, but thou art (emotionally) rich, and I know the blasphemy of them, (the rabbi), which SAY they are Jews, (insisting that they are scripturally supported in their thinking), and are not, but (as preachers, but not doers, themselves, of stoicism, or sexual morality, and political correctness) are of the synagogue of Satan.

Rev. 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil, (that Animus of the antiChrist: [John 8:44]), shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have (for 2 years, at the hand of Nero, followed by) tribulation Ten Years (by Diocletian, in 303-313 AD): be thou faithful unto (a martyr's) death, and I will give thee a crown of (sociological) life, (in 1000 years of Universal Roman Christianity, soon to come).

Nicolaitanes:
Scripture does not fully describe his heresy, but apparently Hymenaeus denied the future physical resurrection of the born again (2 Timothy 2:17-18), as taught by Jesus Christ (John 5:25-29) and Paul (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). He claimed, instead, that the believer's resurrection only happens in a spiritual sense, occurring at the moment one is born again. This heresy was apparently taught by the Nicolaitanes.

(Perhaps they were correct in this assumption, which is a mental resurrection of the same Unconscious Mind,... but inside our psyche in a new body).

But, they were seemingly a class of professing Christians, who sought to introduce into the church a false freedom or licentiousness, thus abusing Paul's doctrine of grace (compare 2 Pet. 2:15, 16, 19), and were probably identical with those who held the doctrine of Baalam (q.v.), Rev. 2:14.

Nicloaitanes were followers of Nicolas, a heretic. They are supposed to have been a sect of gnostics who practiced and taught impure and immoral doctrines, such as the community of wives, that committing adultry and fornication was not sinful, and that eating meats offered to idols was lawful. This was similar to the doctrine of Balaam and Jezebel of Thyatira (Rev. 2:14,15, 20)
